
Inhaled insulin produces a cloud of particles from powdered insulin. These particles are absorbed into the bloodstream through the alveoli, through an inhaler similar to those currently used for the treatment of asthma.
To verify its effectiveness, was held, worldwide, a study period of seven years where more than 3,000 diabetic patients who were treated with inhaled insulin. This demonstrated that this treatment is as effective as injected insulin and superior to oral hypoglycemic agents or pills used by people with type 2 diabetes, to reduce and maintain well-controlled blood sugar levels.
